Who We Are

Joy Rescue Centre is a Charitable Children’s Institution (CCI) registered by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social service now the ministry of labour and social protection. It was established in the year 2006 by the founder and vision bearer Joyce Kabugua. Joy Rescue Centre was started with the mission to save lives as a result of the increasing number of vulnerable and needy children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The Institution started on a rented
premises in Ngurubani town with 4 kids, where the children lived for six years. Later, the
children were relocated to a small permanent piece of land where they have been for years,
located in the outskirts of Wang’uru town around 500 meters away from the main road of Embu-Nairobi Highway opposite Mosque in Mwea, Kirinyaga County. The main objective was and remains to rescue needy and vulnerable children( HIV positive orphans both infected and affected) and providing care and protection by offering basic needs i.e shelter, food, medical attention , education and holistic care.

1. To help HIV positive orphaned children grow in a normal healthy way and reach full maturity accessing all basic needs in a stigma free society.

2. To become the leading institution in childcare for vulnerable children, particularly those living with HIV, by achieving zero undetectable viral load levels and reducing mortality rates caused by HIV-related illnesses in the horn of Africa as well as beyond.

We believe that the needs of children are better met in a family environment. JRC encourages reintegration,foster care and adoption which is done by approved institutions and always emphasizes that the children’s institutions are the last alternative for children in need of care and protection.

We believe in empathy, kindness and understanding that compels action towards child welfare; this creates  a positive and conducive child friendly environment that fosters trust and  openness.

Our faith is the core of who we are and is emphasized by our reliance on God.We fully trust in divine providence which manifests itself through the Good Will of the people God brings to our journey.

We believe that children should be raised in a climate of trust that imbues in them trust not just for family but also for the Almighty God as their Heavenly Father.

We believe that all our operations should be above Board and undertaken with full integrity,demonstrating sound morals and ethical principles.
